Al Potter, originally from Windham, Maine, is a creative problem-solver and innovative thinker currently studying Philosophy and Computer Science at Princeton University. He graduated as valedictorian of Windham High School’s Class of 2023, where he was Class President and served as a Student Representative on the RSU14 School Board, advocating for student voices on key issues like book banning and COVID-19 policies. During his time there, he also achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, completing an automated solar-powered greenhouse project.
At Princeton, Al channels his passion for learning and collaboration into academics, creative endeavors, and leadership roles. He co-founded Physics 2 Astrophysics, a global online program that bridges the gap between high school physics and astrophysics, empowering students from diverse backgrounds to explore the universe.
He also works as Manager of Princeton’s Visual Production Studio, where he oversees operations, trains students on professional video production equipment, and supports content creation across academic, extracurricular, and personal projects.
A lifelong lover of technical theater, Al has honed his skills over six years in lighting design and stage production. At Princeton, he serves as Lighting Designer and Head Electrician for the Princeton Triangle Club, crafting professional-grade lighting solutions for shows across the east coast and in venues like the state-of-the-art McCarter Theatre. As Systems Director for Theatre Intime, he leads a major $750,000 lighting infrastructure upgrade, supporting student designers and revitalizing the theater’s technical capabilities.
His talents also extend internationally. During a Princeton Global Seminar in Gesualdo, Italy, he collaborated with Broadway artists and local technicians to produce a bilingual musical, navigating cultural and technical challenges while strengthening his Italian language skills.
Most recently, Al was named an Undergraduate Fellow with Princeton’s Research Film Studio, where he directed an experimental film and visual installation project for the 2025 Venice Biennale. His work outlines his commitment to storytelling and technology.
In summer 2025, Al will intern at Diversified, a global leader in media technology and systems integration. As part of the four-week program, he will contribute to design documentation for client projects. He will also participate in guided site tours of projects in the build phase and explore workflows spanning broadcasting, live events, post-production, and experiential media environments.
When he’s not studying or designing stage lighting, Al enjoys restoring vintage technology, particularly speakers.
